Freeburg Community High School E-Learning Plan
When weather conditions make travel hazardous or another emergency situation were to arise, Freeburg High School will declare an e-learning day, meaning students will learn remotely from home based on expectations determined by their schools/teachers.
PLEASE NOTE: A complete school closure could still be issued if power outages or other circumstances make e-learning difficult or impossible. E-Learning days are important because students do not lose instruction due to inclement weather, so learning continues and there are no missed days to make-up at the end of the school year. If school is "Closed," - those emergency days are added to the school calendar. If no emergency days are used, the school year ends on the designated day.
The Freeburg Community High School District #77 Board of Education approved a plan to allow Snow/Emergency Weather Days to become E-Learning Days beginning in Winter 2021/2022. The plan was approved on January 20, 2022.
WHAT IS AN E-LEARNING DAY? E-Learning days are designed to serve as official attendance days of school when the students and teachers stay at home due to emergency situations, yet learning continues as students remotely leverage digital tools and engage in teacher-prepared lessons.
E-Learning Guidelines:
In the event of an emergency, e-learning will be announced via the TeacherEase Emergency Alert Phone and Email System. Teachers will notify either students or parents/guardians by 8:30 a.m. of all assignments to be completed for that day via the teacher/students google classroom.
Attendance:
Attendance will be taken for the e-learning day to count as a school day using the E-Learning Check-In. Attendance will be taken by the following method:
Students or Parents must log into TeacherEase by 9:30 a.m. and mark Check-in to be marked as present.
The district will be responsible for checking attendance in TeacherEase by 12:00 p.m. and contacting any parents/students who have not logged in.
If a student is sick, a parent is still required to contact the office and state a reason for the illness. Protocols for communicable diseases will be
followed if reported.
Academic Expectations:
If an e-learning day is one day only, all work will be completed remotely. Live, face-to-face instruction by the teacher may be utilized but is not required. If e-learning lasts more than one day, teachers and support staff will be available from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on the e-learning day(s) for student support, beginning on the second day. Students/Parents may contact the teacher via the communication tool preferred by the teacher and s/he will be available to parents/students during this time. This method must include access via phone/web meeting as an option.
Students will be given the e-learning day/s where they are marked present or excused plus one consecutive school day to complete the e-learning work and turn the work in to their teacher to be graded.
On e-learning days, students will be assigned work in each of their respective classes. Teachers are responsible for planning for classes in which they teach.
Students with disabilities will be given assignments based on their individualized learning plans. Students who receive Speech, OT, PT, or other one-on-one services will be provided said services when the student returns to school. Any issues with meeting the individual needs of students upon their return to school will be immediately communicated to parents and the IEP team.
Meal Program:
To ensure students have access to food on an e-learning day, an announcement regarding meal distribution will be made at the time of the call. Meals may be sent home ahead of time if the emergency e-learning day is known beforehand.
